Babylonian Brainwashing Techniques

Babylonian Brainwashing Techniques

Daniel 1

1 ¶  In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2  And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
3  And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
4  Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
5  And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.
6  Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7  Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
8 ¶  But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

For over 2,600 years the world’s methods to indoctrinate and change people have not changed! The methods/tactics that Babylon used to change and transform young people taken from Jerusalem are still in use after all these years and they work!

If we as God’s people are not proactive we will be changed or transformed by this world we live in. If we are passive...we will change...we must be actively resisting the “course of this world” (Eph 2:2).

Rom 12
1 ¶  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

The command is in the negative, ”...be not conformed...” if we do nothing...if we do not act...we will be caught up in the course of this world and be changed! We must act in order to keep from changing!

There are three areas of attack that were used in the indoctrination of God’s people in Daniel 1

1)     Regale/Riches
In our passage in Daniel 1, Nebuchadnezzar’s 1st attack was upon the diet of the Jewish young men. He put before them that which was contrary to the Old Testament Law.

In the Bible, the Lord likens His Word to food...(1Peter 2:2;Heb 5:12-14)

The Lord also warned His people of a time where there would be a famine of hearing the Word of God....

Amos 8
11 ¶  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
12  And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

When people are starving during a time of famine...it is amazing what people are willing to consume while in that condition! There are many examples in the Bible of the depths of depravity during times of famine! Our world, especially in North America, is starving spiritually! It amazes me to see what people are willing to accept under the banner of ‘Christianity’. Many have lost their spiritual taste buds...the standard has now become...how one feels versus what the Bible says. People have been filled with a portrayal of Christianity through the media, most of which is unscriptural. As a child who has spoiled their supper by eating junk food...many a believer has been spoiled by the pleasures and materialism of this society. God’s people have lost their appetite and are not hungering and thirsting after righteousness! (Mt 5:6)

Changing a society through amusement, entertainment, and materialism has been used down through the centuries. The attack is the same even though the medium has changed. Today this attack has come with a ferocity like we have never seen before! When I was growing up it was...TV, radio, magazines, newspapers, etc. Now, with the advances of technology, it is now entering our homes through the medium of computers and 24/7 though the use of cell phones.

We live in a pleasure crazed world. The Bible tells us in ... 2Tim 3:4 that people would be “...lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
If it’s not fun...people don’t want to do it...happiness and pleasures are the highest of goals! Regale and Riches have become the driving force in our society!

Not only was the attack through Regale and Riches...it also came by...

2)     Rename/Redefine
When they arrived in Babylon...their names were changed to remove any link back to their roots as God’s chosen people! They wanted to remove any reminder of who they were and where they came from! Today, we are experiencing the greatest identity crisis we have ever seen in our history! The crisis has grown exponentially these last few years. People are unsure of who they are and how to live. People are unsure of their gender! Governments and societies are redefining marriage under the banner of ‘tolerance’ and ‘co-existence’! We are living in times where many, including believers are doing “...that which is right in their own eyes.” Judges 17:6 From young to old, many are swallowing the ‘pill’ of redefinition. From every level of government to every level of education...the Bible is no longer the standard from which all laws are based upon.

Another point of attack comes through...

3)     Reason/Reform
Upon their arrival to Babylon, Nebuchanezzar began the process of educating them and teaching them the language. (1:4)

From our day cares right through our universities young people are being indoctrinated with evolution and freedom of sexual expression. We have experienced more violence in the educational system than we have ever seen in history! This constant attack upon the Word of God along with pressure from peers has caused many a young person to question the accuracy and validity of the Bible! Many have been spoiled by “philosophy and vain deceitCol 2:8

Along with this, many of God’s people have taken on the “...speech of Ashdod...” Nehemiah 13:24 It is a shame how this world has affected believers with vulgarity and profanity. Many have lost their shame and blush when the Lord’s name is used in vain. People have more respect for Mohammad’s name or their own family name than God’s name!

These 3 areas of attack do not have to defeat us as Christians. Through Christ, we have all that we need that “pertains to life and godliness” (2Pet 1:3) so that we can “shine as lights” in this “crooked and perverse” (Phil 2:15) world. Over 2,600 years ago, Daniel and his 3 friends experienced this victory without all the benefits that we have today as Christians. After going through this indoctrination process for 3 years (1:5)...they refused to be changed! Without the presence and influence of their parents, they chose to stand up for the Lord and His Word! It all happened, because, Daniel “purposed in his heart” (1:8) that he would “obey God rather than man” (Acts 5:29). Daniel’s “fear of God” far surpassed his “fear of man”! (Prov 29:25) The key to all of this was Daniel keeping his heart tender towards God and being resolute in obeying and following God regardless of the cost!

Can we take a serious look at what happened over 2,600 years ago and say with Daniel of old...Today, I will not be defiled with the “meat” of this world!

God bless those who are resisting the indoctrination of this world!

'You're Not Home Yet'

Henry C. Morrison was a faithful missionary who served the Lord in Africa for over 40 years. He recalls that emotional day when he and his wife boarded a ship on their way back to the United States. His mind flooded with memories of the wonderful experiences they had enjoyed on the mission field. He began wondering what it would be like to return to his Midwestern hometown. “Will anyone there still remember us?”

Aboard that same ship that day with Henry and his wife was the President of the United States, Teddy Roosevelt. He was returning from a big game hunting trip in Africa.

When the ship pulled into the New York harbor there were thousands of people there to greet the arriving President. The crowds were cheering and the bands were playing. There were signs, banners and billboards everywhere saying, “Welcome Home”.

The dear missionary and his wife with their luggage in hand quietly made their way to the deck of the ship to exit. No one had come to welcome them back home. There were no bands playing or banners flying in their honor.

Henry Morrison went to his hotel room with a rather heavy heart. As he sat there on the bed, he asked his wife, “Honey, for 40 years we poured our lives into ministry and service. And yet we come back to America and not a single soul comes to welcome us home!”

His wife came and sat down next to her husband. She put her hand on his shoulder, and said to him, “Henry, you have forgotten something, you’re not home yet!”

This World is Not My Home

This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through,
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

My Savior pardoned me from guilt and shame I know,
I'll trust His saving grace while trav'ling here below;
I know He'll welcome me at heaven's open door
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

I have a precious mother up in glory land,
I don't expect to stop until I clasp her hand;
For me she's waiting now at heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

The saints in gloryland are shouting victory,
I want to join their band and live eternally;
I hear the sweetest praise from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

Refrain:
O Lord, I know, I have no friend like you,
If heaven's not my home O Lord, what can I do?
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home in this world anymore.

How To Stay in Flight - Part 3

As I was preparing to post Part 3, I was reminded on this day, the tragic events of 9-11. It is my prayer that God would comfort the friends, families of those who suffered losses that day. It is also my prayer that many would come to the saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ!

The events that unfolded that day were not the result of pilot error...they were intentional by those who hijacked the planes. The purpose of this series is to help those who are facing storms in life, as in the case of 9-11, and how to stay in flight.

The Instrument Panel of the Believer

Six basic instruments in a light twin-engine airplane arranged in a "basic-T". From top left: airspeed indicator, attitude indicator, altimeter, turn coordinator, heading indicator, and vertical speed indicator
We must be as a pilot who relies on his instruments when encountering dangerous conditions during a flight. We must not let our feelings and emotions guide us, because they will deceive us! (Jer 17:9) As you encounter storms and conditions that are beyond your imagination...the following gauges will provide invaluable, OBJECTIVE, wisdom and direction in your flight! In my own life....I can affirm to you the power of the Instrument Panel of the Christian Life!

1.     The Word of God
This is the first gauge that we need to look at when we encounter a storm. We live in a day as in the book of Judges when “every man did that which is right in his own eyes” (Judg 17:6;21:25) We must always re-adjust our ways and thinking to the Bible...we should never adjust or change the Bible to suit our ways and thoughts!

Is 55
6 ¶  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
8  For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

This Bible is so foreign to...
i.                    The philosophy of this world
ii.                   The teaching of the secular schools at all levels
iii.                  Hollywood and the Music industry

As believers we must not allow these influences to conform us, but we must take an active role in countering all these influences! Time we spend in the Word every day is crucial in countering this influence! The world today, has a course or a path that it follows. (Eph 2:2) Before we came to Christ, we were all caught up in this course or as I like to use the analogy, of the ‘current of a river’. If you sit in a boat and do nothing, this current will move you. Our inaction to make the right choices and decisions will cause us to be moved in the direction that the world is going. That is why the Bible gives us a negative command to...

Rom 12:2  ...be not conformed to this world: ....”

Let's make some right choices and decisions by relying on the gauge of the Word of God!

2.     The Spirit of God
This is the second gauge that God has given to us in our personal instrument panel. In the thirty eight years that I have been saved, I have seen the Holy Spirit blamed for many un-biblical decisions and choices! We must always remember, the Spirit of the Living God never contradicts the Word of God and He never leads contrary to the Word of God!

Jn 14:17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Joh 16:13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

As you can see, the third person of the trinity is called the “Spirit of truth”. He always works in accordance with the Scriptures!

In John 16:8, the Bible also tells us that he will also “reprove the world of sin”. In our decision making process, a believer has to ignore the instrument panel gauge of the Word of God and the Spirit of God when making a wrong decision! Unfortunately, many of God’s people ignore the Instrument panel gauge of the Spirit of God...and many have...
    • GRIEVED the Spirit of God – involving sins of commission
    • QUENCHED the Spirit of God – involving sins of omission

...let’s not ignore the instrument panel gauge of the Spirit of God

3.     The Man of God
This is the third gauge that is important in the life of every believer. We live in a day of rebellion and disrespect to authority. Many don’t want anyone to tell them what to do. God has ordained authority in the...

    • Home
    • Government
    • Workplace
    • School
    • Church

God has set the roles in each of these arenas. No one has a right to change God’s order or the role that God has set in each relationship. (1Cor 11:3) No one has absolute authority except for God. All authority comes from God. (Rom 13:1-6) When authority becomes corrupt and demands obedience contrary to the scriptures, then we “...ought to obey God rather than man.” (Acts 5:29) In most instances, this is the exception and not the rule!

There are times when a pastor sins and can become disqualified for the ministry. (1Tim 3:1-7;Titus 1:6-9) As with flights, there are thousands of successful one's each day. We never hear about them, we only hear about the ones that crash! Don't forget, for every one that falls, there are thousands that are still faithful to the Lord! Elijah was reminded by the Lord that he was not the only one serving Him... there were “...seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.” (1Kg 19:18)

When there is a failure in leadership, we must be careful with the decisions we make. I have see people discard God and the Bible, and use the sin of a pastor as an excuse for them to waste their own life in the “far country”. (Lk 15:13) How sad, to see this take place! We must never forget that... “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Rom 14:12)

In the church, God has established authority and order. If you have a Godly pastor, thank the Lord for him! Thank the Lord for a pastor who cares and feeds the “flock of God”! (1Pet 5:2) Sheep are prone to go astray and God has provided shepherds to lead them according to the Word of God. We live in a day when people will trust and listen to the advice of...

a.     A plumber, when they have a plumbing problem...
b.    An electrician, when they have an electrical problem...
c.     An auto mechanic, when they have a mechanical problem...
d.    A healthcare professional, when they have a health problem...
e.     A teacher, when their kids have an academic problem...
f.     A coach, when their kids have a problem on the team...

...but many fail to follow the advice of their God given pastor when it comes to the problems and storms they face in life! Let's take heed to the instrument panel gauge of the Man of God. And also, let’s not ignore the Word of God and the Spirit of God!

4.     The People of God
This third gauge is underestimated by many believers. The Lord likened the church to His body and every member is “necessary” (1Cor 12:22) It is imperative that every believer identify himself with a local church. People today are replacing church with...online preaching/teaching, DVD’s, TV preachers and evangelists, etc. In addition to just being disobedient to the Word of God (Heb 10:24,25), there are problems that come with this alternative that have replaced the “face to face” (2Jn :12), two way interaction, with other believers and a pastor. In choosing these alternatives, one can pick and choose what they watch and listen to. They can turn it off if they don’t like it, and as mentioned, you can’t interact with it! When one is faithful to the local church...he gets the ‘full meal deal’!

One of the problems with those who choose to stay out of church and choose those alternatives is the issue of accountability. Many do not want to make themselves accountable to anyone. Some claim that they don’t answer to anyone but God! But, in reality, we all answer to someone in addition to the Lord. Many, who remove themselves from other believers, loosen up on their standards of personal holiness. The Bible teaches us that we can learn from and help each other...

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.”  (Prov 27:17)

Being around other believers will help us to stay “sharp” spiritually. It will also help us to learn to get along with others who are different than us. It is of critical importance when making decisions and/or going through a storm that we seek the counsel of Godly people.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” (Pr ov 11:14)

Many have crashed spiritually because they ignored the counsel of Godly believers or they never sought any counsel.

When encountering storms and problems in our life, it is of utmost importance that we keep a close watch on these gauges; trust and obey them in order to stay in flight.
